Balloon Bomber
Taito • 1980

In Balloon Bomber, released by Taito in 1980, two players work cooperatively to defend against a relentless aerial assault. A biplane repeatedly drops balloon bombs towards the bottom of the screen, and your task is to shoot them down before they reach the ground. Successfully destroying both a balloon and its attached bomb awards bonus points, while bombs dropped directly from the plane are worth fewer points. A unique scoring system rewards skillful play; achieving three consecutive hits triggers a mystery point bonus. The game was initially released in Japan and also appeared as a cocktail table version known as "T.T Balloon Bomber." It’s an accessible yet challenging gallery shooter perfect for two-player competition. Balloon Bomber utilizes an Intel 8080 processor and SN76477 sound chip to deliver its gameplay experience, featuring simple controls – a two-way joystick and single button – that focus the action on precision aiming and teamwork.
