Tetris (set 1)
Atari Games • 1988

This 1988 arcade game challenges players to strategically clear falling blocks and compete against an opponent. Geometric shapes composed of four square blocks, known as Tetriminos, descend from the top of the screen, and players must rotate and position them to form complete horizontal lines. Successfully clearing a line causes it to disappear, while incomplete lines stack up, creating increasingly challenging situations. The speed of the falling Tetriminos increases over time, demanding quick reflexes and careful planning. Two players can compete head-to-head in this version, adding a layer of strategic pressure as both attempt to outmaneuver each other and keep their respective stacks from reaching the top. The game ends when either player’s stack obstructs new Tetriminos from entering the playing field. Scoring is based on the number of lines cleared at once, with larger bonuses awarded for clearing multiple lines simultaneously – particularly a "Tetris," which clears four lines at once.
