APB - All Points Bulletin (rev 7)
Atari Games • 1987

Step into the shoes of Officer Bob in Atari’s APB – All Points Bulletin, a 1987 driving game that puts you behind the wheel of a police patrol car. Your mission is to maintain order by apprehending criminals scattered across detailed townscapes, meeting a daily quota of "busts" to keep the peace. Refueling your vehicle at gas stations and managing time are crucial, as collisions with civilians result in penalties. The game features an unusual cabinet design resembling a police car complete with flashing lights triggered by the siren button, providing a unique arcade experience. Players control steering and acceleration via dedicated hardware to chase down a variety of lawbreakers, each offering increasingly substantial rewards for capture. Successfully exceeding your daily arrest quota unlocks bonus points, while strategic use of donuts extends your patrol time. APB was designed by Dave Theurer (of Missile Command fame) and ran on the Atari System 2 hardware. A dedicated single-player experience, this game offered a novel take on driving games with its law enforcement theme and distinctive presentation.
