In Konami’s 1987 shooter Ajax, players are thrust into an emergency mission to defend Earth from invading forces. Taking control first of a helicopter and later transitioning to a jet fighter, two players navigate distinct stages – some presented in 2D and others with a 3D perspective – battling waves of enemy aircraft and ground targets. Throughout the game, collecting power-ups such as rapid-fire weaponry, lasers, and air-to-ground missiles can provide an advantage against increasingly challenging foes; a limited-use super weapon offers a screen-clearing blast when needed.
