Gameplay

Take to the skies in Air Gallet, a cooperative vertical scrolling shooter released in 1996 by Gazelle under license from Banpresto. Players pilot fighter jets and work together to blast through waves of aerial and ground-based enemies across multiple levels. Success depends on collecting power-ups to upgrade your weaponry, cycling between laser beams, support drones, tracing missiles, and rapid-fire gatling guns—each weapon type gaining increasing power with collected tokens. Strategic use of special “bomb” weapons adds another layer to the gameplay: the Energy Spark clears all projectiles from the screen while the Thunder Drive offers a more targeted attack that eliminates bullets in its immediate vicinity. The game features voices by Lenne Hardt and Jeff Manning, and was developed by Gazelle, a company with roots in the celebrated Toaplan studio. Air Gallet utilizes Cave’s first-generation arcade hardware and supports two players simultaneously, providing a dynamic co-operative experience. A remastered edition, Airgallet EXA LABEL, was later released on the exA-Arcadia platform, incorporating bug fixes, a new scoring mode ("EXA Mode"), and updated voiceovers alongside the original gameplay.
