Ace Driver: Racing Evolution (World, AD2)
Namco • 1994

Namco's Ace Driver: Racing Evolution puts two players in the cockpit for intense Formula 1 racing action. Released in 1994, this first-person driving simulator challenges racers to compete as members of one of four distinct teams – Red Lightning, Blue Castle, Yellow Cyclone, and Green Island Motor Sports— across a variety of tracks. Players choose from Beginner, Expert, or Expert Pro class difficulty settings to adjust the challenge. The game utilizes Namco’s System 22 hardware, providing detailed graphics for its time, allowing players to experience racing with a steering wheel control. A deluxe cabinet version featured moving cockpits for an even more immersive sensation. Ace Driver builds upon earlier Namco racing titles like Driver's Eyes, continuing the legacy of polygon-based driving experiences. Notably recognized at the 1994 IAAPA Show, Ace Driver launched a series that would eventually include Victory Lap and Final Turn. The soundtrack for the game was later released on an album by Wonder Spirits.
