720 Degrees (rev 4)
Atari Games • 1986

720° puts you in control of a skateboarder navigating a bustling urban environment known as Skate City. The goal is to earn tickets by performing tricks and jumps across the city streets, then using those tickets to compete for medals and cash prizes within various skateparks. Each park specializes in a different discipline – slalom, jump, downhill, or ramp – and requires completing challenges against a strict timer; failure to do so results in pursuit from a swarm of bees, ending the game. Players can use their winnings to purchase upgrades like faster boards, protective gear for riskier maneuvers, and specialized shoes that improve jump height and starting speed. A unique rotary controller allows for full directional movement and circular tricks as you avoid hazards such as traffic, pedestrians, and rival skaters. The game features two play modes: "Training Level" offers helpful hints for beginners, while “Experienced Level” provides a greater challenge with the option to carry over equipment and progress between games via an "add-a-coin" feature. Map tiles are scattered throughout Skate City that temporarily pause action, displaying park locations and equipment stalls – crucial for planning your route and maximizing ticket earnings. With ten class levels dictating difficulty and a constantly evolving city environment, 720° delivers a dynamic skateboarding experience focused on skill, speed, and mastering daring aerial maneuvers.
