Tecmo’s 1 on 1 Government delivers fast-paced street basketball action for up to four players. Released in Japan in December 1999, this arcade game puts you in control of a player striving for victory through skillful maneuvers like dribbling and dunking, but with a unique twist – aggressive tactics such as punches and kicks are permitted without penalty. The focus is entirely on winning, making each match a chaotic contest of athleticism and sheer determination. Players utilize an 8-way joystick and three buttons to control their character's movements and actions on the court. Character designs were created by famed manga artist Takehiko Inoue, known for basketball-themed works like Slam Dunk. The game runs on Tecmo’s proprietary TPS system, boasting a vibrant color palette of over 16 million hues displayed at a resolution of 640x480. While originally released as an arcade title, 1 on 1 Government has seen ports to the Sony PlayStation console in both 1998 and 2000 under different titles. The game's development was a collaborative effort between Jorudan & I.T. Planning, bringing together a team of programmers, graphic artists, and sound designers for an intense basketball experience.
